The World Music Conference is organized by the British Carnatic Choir (BCC), the U.K.'s first and only Carnatic Choir. The BCC is governed by a board of patrons and trustees who hail from a variety of professional backgrounds and oversee the organisation.

Dr Chithra Ramakrishnan FRSA, FRAS Founder Director of British Carnatic Choir and World Music Conference

Dr Ramakrishnan is an advocate of mental health through music. She started her company ShruthiUK in 2005, with the aim of making Carnatic (South Indian Classical) music and dance more accessible in the UK. She is recognised for her exceptional care and unique holistic methods whilst engaging with people of all ages and abilities; her work serves to boost their confidence and to improve their mental and social wellbeing.

The World Music Conference was established in 2017, with the intention of creating long-lasting ties between the numerous cultures coexisting within our society today.

Since then, we have successfully hosted three conferences featuring a unique array of world musicians and expert speakers to create a one-of-a-kind experience. Each year, the speakers cover a wide range of topics, which means there's always something for everyone to discover and enjoy.

Both music and yoga have been scientifically proven to positively influence one's mental wellbeing; to understand and discuss this connection, tune into the virtual conference between 11th - 12th December 2020.

This year, our conference is a friendly, welcoming space in which leading researchers, musicians, and the general public can meet to share, inspire, and network.

Attending this conference will allow you to:

  • reflect on the latest research in the fields of mental health, music and fitness.
  • discover key techniques you can use to improve your mental state.
  • network with distinguished professionals whom you may not otherwise have met.
  • be involved in breaking down cultural barriers and form sustained relationships with new people.
  • promote world music.
