Have you ever wondered if we still need orchestras and bands in the presence of AI? How about if listening to music is more beneficial to increasing intelligence than practising it is? Is music more potent in developing scientific/analytical thinking or critical appraisal needed for literature?
Endless research has cited a two-way association between music and intelligence – as musical competence heightens, as does intelligence, and vice versa. But what is this elusive “intelligence”, and just how powerful is music in determining this? The World Music Conference 2023 will address all of these interesting questions, and more, on a virtual platform on December 15th, 2023.
· Reflect on the latest research in the fields of music and intelligence, and brainstorm discussion points for further research.
· Discover innovative techniques that implement music into your personal lifestyle to facilitate intelligence.
· Network and establish life-long rapports with distinguished professionals from various fields, including musicians and scholars.
Music has a value of its own. It is, however, more significant than itself, and through the history of human experience, music emerges as a captivating thread that weaves through the very fabric of our existence.
Music serves as an eloquent conduit for the expression and comprehension of emotions. It acts as a universal language that transcends cultural barriers, allowing individuals to connect with their own emotions and empathize with the experiences of others. As we engage with the vibrant landscapes of music, our emotional intelligence is honed, fostering a deeper understanding of the intricate interplay between intellect and sentiment.
Join the World Music Conference as it seeks to unravel the profound relationship between music and intelligence/

Welcome to the 7th Annual World Music Conference
This year’s goals are centred around our theme of “Music and Intelligence”.
Our goal is to identify and explore the relationship between music and intelligence in various cultures, considering the following key themes:
- The psychological and neurological impacts of music on the brain.
- How practising music can be modified to increase intelligence.
- The role of Artificial Intelligence in music composition, appreciation, and understanding.
The conference seeks to assimilate these findings and research to provide recommendations that inspire positive changes on an individual level, and systemic level, such as by reshaping national/international education curriculums.
Following this, the WMC will also launch infographics and publications on this theme, which will generate further discussion centred on the topic.
The conference will achieve these aims through a series of interactive, hands-on workshops, performances, keynote speeches, and panel discussions, in addition to academic papers.
The WMC uniquely provides an interdisciplinary platform to encourage, present and share their valuable insights in both artistic and scientific domains; the key characteristic of the conference is that the theme is always considered through the intercultural lens. Topics we are looking to present as part of this conference include, but are not limited to:
1. How can music attribute to a stronger grip of mathematics/numeracy skills ?
2. Is there space for music in the role of improving literacy?
3. How does music impact the brain? Is it something everyone should seek to engage in?
4. The science of sound – what makes music enjoyable?
5. The impact of AI on composing cultural music – does it inhibit true creativity?
6. Musicians’ perspectives on AI in music – is this something we must embrace?
7. How can music be used to enhance intelligence of all kinds?
8. Incorporating AI into real-time performances.
9. The secret to practising music intelligently – is there a “right” way we should be practising music?
The virtual conference aims to connect with scholars, and the next generation of musicians artists and communities from around the world with different backgrounds and from diverse fields of practice and research to deliver key insights on the conference theme- 'Music and Intelligence.'
